Appeal to help create a happier Kenyan Christmas

An appeal for simple items that will make it easier for hundreds of schoolchildren to do their work has been launched by a Jersey trust that supports the Shariani Pentecostal Church and school.

The church and school were built as a result of the efforts of Donald Mzungu, who began his fundraising by saving up his wages when he first came to work at the Merton Hotel in 2001.

About £30,000 a year needs to be raised to keep the two running and various fundraising initiatives will be launched early next year. Mr Mzungu was recently on a very successful fundraising trip to the Island and managed to secure £18,000.

However, for now the trust is hoping Islanders will be prepared to send some simple items to Kenya by post as Christmas presents for the schoolchildren.

Anyone who wants to send a Christmas gift to the children should post items to Donald Mzungu, PO Box 28-80119, Vipingo, Via Mombasa, Kenya. Anyone who wants to find out more about the trust locally should contact Mr Lewis on 07797 718573.
