With Kate Cadigan unable to defend her title, top seed Olivia French battled it out with Sarah Taylor for the honours at the Jersey Squash Club at the weekend and won 12-15, 15-12, 15-9, 15-9.

Although Taylor took the first set, helped by her speed around the court and deadly volleys, an injury time out for French in the subsequent game disrupted her opposition’s rhythm and she turned around a big deficit to win the second.

In the third she deployed her lethal short kills with Taylor unable to find any answers, despite chasing every ball, and wins in the remaining games brought her the title with a 3-1 victory.

Favourite Rob Hickling took the men’s singles title beating young challenger Mark Le Roux, who had beaten Hickling in their last two league meetings.
