From Michael Hingston.
I HAVE read the JEP report about Snow Hill needing some safety work on the rock face. Also that the general public do not want a car park in Ann Street.
Surely, then, the answer would be to build the multi-storey car park in the existing car park at Snow Hill.
This could embrace the work needed within Snow Hill and would also be a great solution for Fort Regent, as this would mean that access to the popular leisure centre could be from the centre of town.
If we really want to save some money, why not, once the access is available to the Fort, create the town park in the already established gardens around the fort, where there are the best views in the Island and which are also away from noise and traffic fumes?
Once access is sorted, surely someone from the private sector would see an opening for investing in the Fort, be it in the form of a budget hotel or maybe a revolving restaurant where the old cable car station is situated.
This could also replace the sorely missed Central Park restaurant.
