With one member of the Jersey Credit Suisse badminton team sleeping through their alarm Dunford received a last minute call to get to the airport and join team-mate and fiancée Cara McGinnigle on the early morning flight over to England.

He made it just in time and was able to help Jersey to a 9-6 win in their Division 2C match. With the singles games halved 2-2, wins coming from Kim Ashton and Kerry Coombs-Goodfellow, Dunford stepped on court, complete with borrowed racket and kit, for his first competitive match in around a year.

Team captain Gavin Carter said: ‘His class and experience were immense as he combined with Jon Southern to win both men’s doubles matches. His performance was stunning and proves that years of dedication and hard training is invaluable.’
