From A Anderson.
WHILE the development director of Jersey Harbours and her technical manager did sterling work at Monday night’s meeting, conveying the department’s plan for developing St Helier Harbour to what turned out to be a largely hostile audience of boat owners, where was their boss?
Certainly not present in support of his staff, as they might have been entitled to expect on such an important occasion, although even a few politicians turned out to gauge the reactions of Harbours’ customers to their ambitious plans.
Regrettably, the invisibility of the Harbourmaster is no surprise to the boating community. His apparent reluctance to front up to his customers seems standard procedure. When will he realise that public service leadership is not a backroom occupation?
