Samantha Morrison has said that she is to stand for Deputy of St Clement as a candidate for Reform Jersey – the Island’s only political party.
Mrs Morrison, who is the administrator of the Facebook group Jersey Ask, Advise, Advertise which has almost 10,000 members, says one of the reasons she is standing is because she believes the Island needs better secondary education for children with complex needs.
Mrs Morrison, a married mother of four, said: ‘I am standing as a candidate for Reform Jersey, because I believe everyone should have the ability to access essential services, to be paid a decent wage and to live in a safe, comfortable and affordable home.
‘As a mother of a child with multiple complex needs, I have over ten years of personal experience in dealing with our mental health system and understand the importance of being able to access quick, non-judgmental support.
‘I believe our Island needs better educational provision at secondary level for children with complex needs. More needs to be done to alleviate unnecessary pressure on pupils and their parents, with a particular emphasis on the acceptance of Mental Health Days.’
Mrs Morrison, who has lived in St Clement for nine years, added that ‘the time has come to embrace a new, progressively reformed, fully accountable, compassionate government’.
Reform Jersey chairman Deputy Sam Mézec said: ‘I am pleased to be supporting Samantha because I know how passionate she is about improving our mental healthcare system. She is an excellent listener and not afraid to speak her mind when she believes vulnerable people are being let down.’
