The housing, household services, motoring and leisure services groups were the largest contributors to the overall annual increase in the RPI.
A key driver in the housing group was the increased cost of buying a home due to higher mortgage interest payments following the increases in the Bank of England base rate in November 2017 and August 2018.
According to the report, issued by Statistics Jersey:
- Fuel and light costs rose 8.7 per cent
- Motoring costs rose by 4.9 per cent
- Leisure services rose by 5.5 per cent
- Clothing and footwear costs dropped by 3.5 per cent and fares and other travel decreased by 1.4 per cent.
The highest annual increase in the rate of inflation in recent years was measured in September 2008, when prices increased by 6.4 per cent.
The lowest was in September the following year, when prices dropped by 0.6 per cent.
