Man rescued after falling 50-ft down embankment following night out

Firefighters, the police and paramedics were called out shortly before 5 am on Saturday after the man fell from the roadside on Beaumont Hill into undergrowth.

The Fire and Rescue Service said the man was found 15 m (49-ft) down an embankment where vegetation had broken his fall.

In a statement, the service said: ‘Due to the nature and position of the fall, further resources in the form of the Specialist Technical Rescue Unit and a further appliance were required.

‘Working closely with the police and Ambulance, the male casualty was then safely extricated using specialist equipment.’

They added: ‘The Fire Service would like to promote that during the festive season, members of the public make suitable arrangements to get home safely.’
