A number of stores have run out of basic items, including toilet paper and cleaning fluids, as fears over coronavirus continue to spread.
In a Facebook post, one Islander said: ‘Jersey I think you need to slow down. I have just been into Waitrose just to get a couple of bits for the weekend and you know what it’s like Christmas Eve x 6.’
‘There are people piling trolleys sky high shelves are stripped bare are people taking 6 and 7 of each product there is no flour there is hardly any sugar there are certainly no toilet rolls or any tissues of any description I’m sorry but this is obscene, yes I know this is frightening however we really need a reality check and it’s down to the local stores to limit the amount of items people have in their trolleys just saying.’
Many shops have already placed restrictions on the number of basic shopping items people can buy.
In a tweet, the Government of Jersey said: ‘We’re a small, strong community and we need to look after each other, so please consider others and do not buy more than you need.’
