It follows several rescues in the area over the years, including one last Thursday (9 April) when three people and a dog got into trouble.

One of those involved managed to get themselves to shore but the two others were picked up by a passing boat. The Jersey Fire and Rescue Service’s inshore lifeboat was launched.

Speaking about the buoys in a post on Facebook, Jersey Coastguard, said: ‘The buoys sit upright at low water and are designed to grab the attention of people walking out to the castle, more than traditional signage on shore.

‘We have been working with Jersey Heritage to improve awareness of the risks of being cut off by the tide in this area and these buoys form one element of this continued effort.’

Anyone heading to the coast is urged to check tide times, the weather forecast, have a means of calling for help and ensure someone knows your plans.

All of Jersey Heritage’s visitor attractions, including Elizabeth Castle, are currently closed due to Covid-19.
