FISHERIES officers staged a mini-rescue recently – to prevent a small, unmanned vessel from Guernsey grounding on rocks off the north coast.

The officers, who were on ‘kayak patrol’ off the Island’s north coast, encountered a model boat labelled with a code similar to those used to identify Guernsey-registered fishing vessels.

The watercraft was intercepted as it floated close to the shore near White Rock.

The model, which was described as ‘pretty robust’, is currently in dry dock at Howard Davis Farm.

With officers scheduled to make a trip to Guernsey next week, it could be returned to its rightful owner, should they be identified.

In a post on Facebook, the Jersey Fisheries and Marine Resources team said: ‘Officers are seeking the owner of the Guernsey fishing vessel that was found floating abandoned close to shore.

‘The vessel was taken in hand to prevent it from grounding on the rocks east of Bouley Bay.’
