AN AURIGNY aircraft was forced to return to Guernsey yesterday evening after being struck by lightning.
Flight GR610, which began its journey to London Gatwick shortly after 6pm, suffered the lightning strike mid-flight and turned back so it could undergo safety checks.
The incident also meant that two further departures – GR610 and the return GR611 scheduled to leave Gatwick at 7.40pm for Guernsey – were cancelled, with customers being offered alternative flights.
In a statement, the company said: ‘All of Aurigny’s aircraft are designed to withstand lightning strikes and after completing safety inspections the aircraft is expected to return to service later today.’
None of the passengers or crew were injured.
