The result – a 33-29 win – may have lacked the significance of the April 2014 ‘Great Escape’ match when the Reds secured Championship survival on the last day of the season, but it was a fantastic achievement against a potent Bedford Blues side.
‘I honestly don’t think there was anyone in the league who saw us getting five points tonight – it was a fantastic performance,’ he said.
‘Our defence was impressive, but we also performed brilliantly in attack and almost every time we got into their half, we scored.’
Biljon (pictured, left) smiled when asked about the introduction of Uili Kolo’ofa’i in the penultimate minute just before the Reds won a crucial scrum penalty under their own posts.
‘We had Uili and a fresh front row, and I didn’t expect our scrum to go in any direction other than forwards,’ he added, and closed by challenging his players to ‘back up’ the Bedford win on home turf against second-placed Ealing Trailfinders this Friday evening.
