Macdonald’s inter-island group-stage fixture against 2018 World Cup winner Beere is one of six matches for Team Jersey on Day One, and follows an early-morning tie against Scotland’s Caroline Brown [12 midnight UK].
Jersey’s men’s triples squad of Malcolm de Sousa, Ross Davis and Derek Boswell begin their campaign at the same time against hosts Australia, before meeting Botswana, and the women’s fours team – Chris Grimes, Joan Renouf, Doreen Moon and Eileen Vowden – face New Zealand and Zambia.
Elsewhere, swimmer Harry Shalamon goes in the men’s 100m backstroke heats at the Optus Aquatic Centre [approx 2.50 am UK] and Ollie Turner will line up alongside the world’s best triathletes on Southport Broadwater Parklands [4 am UK] for the first ever Commonwealth Games sprint triathlon.
Serena Guthrie – representing Team England for a second time at this level, following Glasgow 2014 – will also be in action as the Roses meet Scotland in their opening group game.
