The Jerseyman, who finished third at the World Championships last year, claimed second at his latest British Natural Strongman Federation event – just one point off top spot at the regional finals.

Stevenson – once a national shot putt thrower – won two of the six disciplines, after impressive displays in the Axle clean and press [120 kg, six repetitions] and the Atlas Stones [110 kg – 160 kg]. The 28-year-old, who is now based back in Jersey, is now focusing on the World Natural Strongman Federation series in Hungary [3 June], before returning to the UK for the British finals in July.

Natural strongman events are open to athletes who compete without the help of what may be deemed as unnatural performance enhancers.
