The game at the picturesque St Martin ground was a run-fest, too, as just under 500 runs were scored as the Royals beat the home team’s 2nd XI by four wickets.

Royals moved to the top of the Division I table in the Jersey Post Weekend League after chasing down Farmers Caesareans 2nds’ 40-over total of 297 for three, with two overs to spare.

Hongekar struck two 6s and a dozen boundaries and he received good support from Aniraj Sharma and Tejpal Ambekallu.

Sharma hit six 4s on his way to 53 runs off 40 deliveries, while Ambekallu’s 37 runs, off 27 balls, included three 4s.

Chris Hopwood and Asa Tribe featured in an opening stand of over 100 runs.

Hopwood finished on 54 and Tribe on 79, with Hopwood’s innings including six boundaries and Tribe four.

James Turnbull took the Farmer’s score on to 297 after he clouted the ball to the boundary 11 times to finish unbeaten on 78 runs from 49 deliveries.

Former Island cricketer Chris Searson took five wickets for 34 runs in his eight-over spell in Rathbones OVs 2nds’ five-wicket win against St Ouen Springfield 2nds.

At the College Field, the former Jersey Cricket Board team manager and his colleagues dismissed St Ouen Springfield for 84 runs in 20.2 overs.
