Stage set for Mixed Open

IN the wake of Jersey Golf’s amalgamation of the men’s and women’s sections of the sport, local PGA professional Alex Mollin and Duncan Ellis at Rock Accounting have teamed up to create the Rock Accounting Mixed Open.

With the removal of the Jersey PGA event, there was no longer an opportunity for local golf-teaching professionals to compete, and Mollin is keen to fill that void.

Her event is due to be held on 26 June and the inclusive competition is open to the Island’s top men, women, juniors and seniors.

Mollin said: ‘Having lost the PGA event, we lost the opportunity for the best players in the Island to compete alongside each other, including the local PGA professionals in the Island.

‘What we wanted to do was offer a tournament that is accessible to professionals and also the best amateurs in Jersey.

‘We have opened up the event to men, women, seniors and juniors. If you are good enough, then you deserve an opportunity to play.

‘I think it adds something a little different to the Jersey Golf calendar and it is important to recognise that there aren’t really many scratch events for women to compete in.

‘We just wanted to add to the next step. It is fantastic that Jersey Golf is now under the same umbrella and more events are being played alongside one another.

‘I am so thankful to Duncan at Rock Accounting. He has long been a fan of local golf and was keen to support in any way possible.’
