England’s top order crumbled in embarrassing fashion as their hopes of a one-day whitewash over Australia hit the rocks in Adelaide.

The tourists, having claimed the series 3-0, came crashing back to earth as Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins exploited a helpful pitch to leave England eight for five on Australia Day.

That included ducks for Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and Jos Buttler, leaving an almighty rescue job for Eoin Morgan and Moeen Ali.

After 15 overs they had at least ended the clatter of wickets, with the scoreboard reading 35 for five.
