England’s top order falls apart in Adelaide

England suffered a shambolic start to the fourth one-day international against Australia, losing their top five for just eight runs at the Adelaide Oval.

The tourists have been talking up the prospect of a historic whitewash in recent days, but saw their top order implode after being sent in to bat by Steve Smith.

Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and Jos Buttler all fell for ducks as Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins ran riot on Australia Day, with Alex Hales mustering three.
