Roy assault gets England going in Perth

Jason Roy got England off to a rapid start against Australia as Perth’s new Optus Stadium opened its doors to international cricket with the final match of the one-day series.

Roy had a life on 20, nicking Mitchell Starc only for a retrospective no-ball call, but played some mighty strokes as he made 49 in 46 balls.

He eventually mis-timed a booming drive off Andrew Tye, the local boy taking the first wicket at the newly opened 55,000-seat ground.

Jonny Bairstow (27no) and Alex Hales (10no) picked up the baton, with the tourists reaching 92 for one after 15 overs after being asked to bat first.

Both sides made two changes – David Willey and Jake Ball back for England, with Glenn Maxwell and Starc back in home colours.
