Neymar is set to miss up to two months with a fractured metatarsal and sprained ankle, according to his father.

Neymar senior believes the world’s most expensive footballer will not be fit to face Real Madrid in the Champions League next Tuesday.

The 26-year-old was carried off nine minutes from the end of his side’s 3-0 win over Marseille on Sunday, and his father insists it could be eight weeks before he plays again.

“His treatment will last six to eight weeks, whether there is an operation or not,” he told ESPN FC.

Paris St Germain coach Unai Emery, however, insists Neymar has a chance of playing against the holders next week.

Emery insists Neymar, who cost a world record £200million transfer fee from Barcelona in the summer, is focused on helping the French side overcome a 3-1 first leg deficit to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

“Neymar wants to play every game – he’s focused on Real,” Emery told a pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

“We have to be patient. I think there’s a small chance that he’ll be ready for the match.”
