Plunging temperatures at the Ageas Bowl left Essex seamer Peter Siddle bowling in a beanie hat on the final day of his side’s Specsavers County Championship clash against Hampshire.
Seven of Essex’s players donned similar attire in the field but the Australian went one step further by keeping his headwear on during his spell.

The bracing conditions did not stop Siddle taking care of business on the field, though, snapping the bat of Hampshire batsman Rilee Rossouw with his second delivery.
The South African then nicked Siddle to second slip where Simon Harmer, also wearing a beanie, took his hands out of his pockets just soon enough to pouch the catch.

England hopeful Jamie Porter did not follow Siddle’s lead but took an extra sweater, borrowed from Varun Chopra, before taking ball in hand.
The Essex Twitter feed went on to count 17 brave fans defying the cold to watch proceedings.
