Stan Wawrinka reaches last eight in Geneva

Defending champion Stan Wawrinka eased into the quarter-finals of the Geneva Open by beating Jared Donaldson in straight sets.

Third seed Wawrinka, a wildcard entrant in his native Switzerland, won 6-3 6-4 to continue his quest for a third successive win at the tournament.

The three-time grand slam winner will next play Marton Fucsovics following the Hungarian’s 7-6 (7/5) 6-4 success over American Frances Tiafoe.

Andreas Seppi also progressed, beating Spain’s Bernabe Zapata Miralles 7-5 6-3, while Tennys Sandgren and Fabio Fognini will meet in the last eight following their respective victories over Mirza Basic and qualifier Noah Rubin.

At the Lyon Open, second seed John Isner set up a quarter-final meeting with Britain’s Cameron Norrie.

American Isner overcame Moldovan Radu Albot 7-6 (6/3) 6-3, while Norrie was a 6-1 6-4 victor over Germany’s Maximilian Marterer.

Taylor Fritz will meet Dusan Lajovic in the last eight following their respective wins over third seed Jack Sock and Filip Horansky.

Frenchman Gilles Simon and Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Kukushkin also progressed on Wednesday.
