Such has been Federer’s domination at Wimbledon over the last two years that his serve had barely come under threat until the quarter-finals. In fact, the eight-time champion had not been broken at this year’s championships until Anderson finally won a returning game, ending a run of 85 consecutive holds. He ended up breaking him three more times on the way to a memorable win.
