Rishabh Pant counter-attack frustrates England as India look to salvage draw

Rishabh Pant blasted his maiden Test century as India looked to thwart England’s bid to complete a 4-1 series victory at The Oval.

The 20-year-old raced to 101 in just 118 balls as India reached 298 for five at tea, with England unable to snare any wickets in the afternoon session.

Pant brought up his century with a hefty six off Adil Rashid, to become the first Indian wicketkeeper to notch a Test ton in England.

Lokesh Rahul grafted away steadily at the other end too, to turn his 108 at lunch into 142 at tea.

A curiously flat wicket helped India set about fighting to salvage a draw on the final day in Vauxhall, with the tourists’ 464 victory target always appearing out of reach.

Ajinkya Rahane had earlier miscued an Ali ball to Keaton Jennings to depart for 37 in the morning session, with Hanuma Virahi dismissed without score by Ben Stokes.
