It means that since the initiative began in 2005, the initiative has raised more than £300,000 for the charity.
More than 2,150 trees were collected by volunteers from businesses and homes during the first week of January, with all donations going towards supporting the palliative care charity, which needs more than £5.3 million annually – that’s £14,600 per day – to operate.
This year, the average donation rose to £15.50, compared to the average donation of £14.08 last year.
The trees were collected by more than 50 volunteers in 26 vans and were delivered to the green-waste recycling facility to be turned into soil improver for gardens and farmland.
Sacha Patel, income generation manager at Jersey Hospice Care, said: ‘This year has been a huge success and it would not have happened without the continued support from our community. The generosity of local businesses, residents and volunteers is astounding and once again the scheme proved to be a wonderful fundraiser.’
The scheme is sponsored by the Aztec Group and receives support from a variety of local businesses, including local garden centres, Webreality, Jersey Post, Randall’s, M&S and the Jersey Evening Post.
Joanna Hewlett, from the Aztec Group, said: ‘The results of this year’s Christmas tree collection are tremendous. We’re proud to be a part of this initiative, which raises funds for an amazing local charity, as well as having a positive impact upon the environment.
‘Having sponsored this initiative since 2014, we’re excited to see it grow every year and provide valuable support to Jersey Hospice.’
