A yellow snow alert – the lowest warning level – has been issued by Jersey Met for the start of next week. It states that ‘sleet or snow showers’ may occur, but currently ‘little or no accumulations’ are expected.
Although some wintry showers are possible on Sunday, they are more likely from the start of the working week, say forecasters.
Daytime temperatures are expected to rise no higher than 5°C on Monday and Tuesday and 4°C on Wednesday. A moderate north-easterly wind will make it feel more like 0°C to minus 1°C.
And temperatures at night are likely to fall to 1°C on Tuesday and 0°C by Wednesday.
The UK Met Office, which issues 30-day forecasts, says that much of February is likely to be colder than average, with a continued risk of sleet and snow.
The expected cold February will be in stark contrast to last month, which was the fourth-mildest January since records began. It had an average temperature of 8.5°C – well above the long-term average of 6.6°C. Last month was also the 11th wettest January on record.
