However, drivers are being warned that they may need to allow extra time for journeys over half-term or use the bus, as major roadworks are due to affect two main routes to and from the west of the Island.
Starting on Saturday, at 8 am, Jersey Electricity will be closing St Aubin’s Inner Road at West Park to allow their new St Helier West primary substation to be connected to the power grid, which requires major civil engineering works.
The work is due to be completed by Sunday 18 February and buses will still be allowed through.
On Monday, from 9 am, the Infrastructure Department will be closing St Peter’s Valley between Tesson Mill and Sandybrook Lane as part of its ongoing resurfacing programme.
Drivers are advised to take an alternative route via Beaumont or St Mary and St Lawrence. Rue du Moulin de Tesson will be made one way and the direction of traffic in Sandybrook Lane temporarily reversed to accommodate local traffic only.
The number eight bus outbound will be diverted at Bel Royal to Route de Beaumont and rejoin at St Ouen’s Village. However, the inbound service will operate as normal. That phase of the resurfacing work is due to be completed by Friday 16 February, after which temporary traffic lights will be in place from 9.15 am to 4 pm and 7 pm to 11 pm, Monday to Friday, with road closures on Sundays from 8 am to 8pm.
In a statement the Infrastructure Department said: ‘In view of these essential projects DfI is recommending allowing for extra journey time, considering alternative routes and to make good use of the bus service, which will otherwise continue normal timetabled services.’
