Hugh Raymond, who is also chairman of the Jersey Sports Council, has announced his intention to fill the seat vacated by Deputy Anne Pryke.
He also stood in the 2016 Senatorial by-election – finishing fifth overall and topping the poll in Trinity.
Mr Raymond, who narrowly lost out to Deputy Pryke by just 16 votes in the Deputy election in 2014, has said that his work with the honorary police has fuelled his desire to support the community.
He said: ‘I love the parish. It has treated me very well and I would like to do more for the parishioners.
‘I have a great belief that the States have to adapt to changes. There needs to be a lot more honesty and openness so that the general public have a far greater understanding of what is happening.’
He added that the key areas the next Assembly would have to tackle were the growing population, the new-hospital project and making improvements in education.
‘We obviously need to ensure that businesses don’t disappear because they can’t find the people,’ he said.
‘However, we have got a lot of excellent people already based in the Island, and yet we seem to bring people in a lot of the time.’
