Mr Crowcroft was re-elected unopposed for a sixth term as Constable and vowed to ‘get straight back to work’ knowing that he will be returning to the States Chamber when it re-convenes after next month’s election. He said that he was delighted to be back as there are ‘still battles to fight’ for the parish.

As well as being the longest-serving Constable in the States, Mr Crowcroft also served for two years as a St Helier Deputy between 1996 and 2001. He said: ‘The last term of office had some major successes as a parish for the whole team – elected Members, honorary officers and professional staff all worked together as a team. Getting the States to pay parish rates was probably the main one but also the extension to the [Millennium] Town Park.’

Looking ahead to the next four years, Mr Crowcroft added: ‘St Helier is under enormous pressure to take a lot of the housing, the population, the infrastructure.

‘We need to make sure the States gives St Helier due recognition for that. It is important we keep up the pressure to have good open spaces and keep a good quality of life that is comparable with the other parishes.’

Twenty-five candidates were also nominated for the ten Deputy seats across the parish’s three districts.
