The move, initiated by Environment Minister John Young, follows increasing sightings of the fish in local waters and news that fishermen caught a 102 kg bluefin tuna last week.
Jersey-licensed commercial fishing vessels are already prohibited from targeting bluefin tuna due to licence restrictions.
