Leon Joseph Samuel Gratton (27), of Rocqueberg Close, St Clement, was also banned from contacting the woman for two years after he was made the
subject of a restraining order.

Grattan pleaded guilty to pursuing a course of conduct that amounted to harassment between 22 February and 7 July this year.

The court heard that on 23 February he sent 11 messages, 36 in late March and then over 80 in the weeks that followed. The court was told that the defendant discovered that the woman was seeing someone else and on 7 July between 1.50 am and 4.15 am he sent 174 text messages and tried to ring on 20 occasions

The court was told that at 11.32 am that same day, Gratton sent a message saying: ‘Sorry, I was way too drunk and I never drink.’

The court heard that the complainant did not reply to any of the messages. The application for the restraining order was based on the messages that were sent to the woman’s phone on 7 July.
