The new clothing, which is made by Helly Hansen and costs £1,500 per suit, replaces the previous gear which was designed around 25 years ago.

And, for the first time, the kit has been specifically tailored with different designs for men and women.

Nigel Sweeny, Lifeboat Operations Manager, said: ‘The waters and weather around Jersey are as unpredictable as they are beautiful, and being properly kitted up is essential to our volunteer crew so they can concentrate on the task at hand – saving lives at sea – without having to worry whether their clothing is going hinder them in any way.’

Jersey’s two stations are some of the first in Britain to receive the kit which will now be rolled out across the organisation’s 236 other centres.
