Jersey to burn Alderney’s waste

The move is expected to generate around £90,000 per year for the States.

A deal with Guernsey to transport and treat their waste fell through, but Infrastructure Minister Kevin Lewis said the option was available for Jersey to renegotiate with them at a later date.

St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft lodged an amendment asking politicians to agree that any profit from treating other jurisdictions’ waste should be spent on improving the environment around St Helier and La Collette. That move was supported by Members.

The proposals brought by Deputy Lewis were adopted by 38 votes to nine.
