Jersey’s civil servants vote to strike next week

The strike is due to take place at 9 am on Friday 7 December after members of the JCSA Prospect union, which represents 2,500 civil servants, voted heavily in favour of taking the action in a show of hands at its AGM on Wednesday evening.

Members also voted in support of authorising the union’s executives to arrange further industrial action if necessary.

As well as office workers, types of civil servant which are set to refuse to work include teaching assistants, radiographers and engineers.

The move is due to widespread dissatisfaction with below-inflation pay offers being made to large numbers of staff in the public sector for 2018 and 2019.

Jersey’s teaching unions are also balloting their members over strike action.
