Images of the suspect, who appears to have dark hair and was wearing a grey hat and a lumberjack-style jumper on the night of the incident, have been posted on the Caught on Camera section of the States police website.
The alleged victim suffered injuries to his face during the incident, which occurred between 2am and 2.30am on Thursday 11 April at the Stafford Hotel on Kensington Place.
The JEP understands the incident began after the suspect was told he could not stay at the hotel that night. He had not been a guest previously.
