The blaze spread over about 2,500 metres – or the third of the size of a football pitch. No homes were affected.
Fire crews were called to scene at about 9.15pm in the area of Mont Huelin towards L’Etacq in St Ouen.
Both duty and on-call firefighters were on scene for over two hours tackling the flames and damping down the area to ensure it was safe.
In a statement posted online, the Fire & Rescue Service said: ‘This evening at approximately 9.15 pm multiple calls were received for an open land fire in the area east of Mont Huelin, St Ouen. Duty and on-call firefighters were immediately dispatched from town HQ and the Western Fire Station.
‘The fire involved 2,500 sq m of furze and was brought under control safely before reaching any of the surrounding properties. Firefighters remained on scene for over two hours damping down and ensuring everything was safe.’
